Terry towels and bathrobes are in constant use in hotels: housekeeping collects towels, shower towels and bath mats almost every day and replaces them with freshly laundered ones. This also means that hotel terry towels are constantly going to the laundry, where they are washed, dried and laid out. There is one major difference to household laundry: in industrial laundry, terry toweling is subjected to high mechanical stress. During the process of washing, drying and ironing, towels and bathrobes from the hotel industry have to withstand a lot and for a long time, which is unavoidable: at high washing temperatures and in combination with professional detergents, stains such as shoe polish or lipstick are also easily removed - in a good hour! The dryers have to keep up with the speed of the washing machines, so things get really 'hot': The drying temperatures are well above 100 °C so that the water that remains in the fiber loops evaporates as quickly as possible.
So much for the level of stress that terry towels, bathmats and bathrobes have to put up with without being noticed in the room. After all, hotel guests must not be handed a towel that is stained, warped, hardened and possibly frayed at the seams.
Why does professional terry toweling withstand industrial washing and towels for households do not?
The answer is simple, but the solution is not: terry products for use in commercial laundries are specially developed and are therefore miles apart from towels and bathrobes that are used and washed at home. Terry linen that is industrially washed and used in hotel and spa must be optimized in every detail. We start with a very high-quality fiber: the cotton we select must have a minimum fiber length of 35 mm. This guarantees high strength and good spinnability, i.e. it has properties that have a direct impact on the quality of the yarn and the stability of the fabric. As things stand at present, this is also the reason why we only process recycled cotton to a limited extent or in combination with more tear-resistant yarns: Recycled fibers do not meet our quality requirements in terms of washability and durability for the industrial laundering process.
How does the production of terry toweling for hotels differ from the one for towels washed privately?
Quite considerably! For example, we only use ring-spun yarns, which are particularly tear and abrasion resistant compared to other types of yarn. This means that our qualities can easily withstand the tensile and frictional forces in the washing and drying drums.
The fabric also differs greatly from terry towels in private homes: To prevent the loops from being pulled out we literally bind them extra tightly into a dense base fabric. “Running stitches” are therefore rare with our professional terry linen or the result of improper handling in the laundry. Here is a tip: Because all terry towels have loops, you should make sure that zippers are closed and Velcro fasteners are exactly on top of each other when washing and drying - or it is best to process them separately.
One of the critical aspects of hotel terry toweling is the borders. They are often decorated with stylish designs and can be 10 cm high or even more. The designs are usually woven in, which leads to a different density of the fabric that consumes more threads. And that is precisely the catch: when washed, the border shrinks more than the rest, so that the towel takes on the shape of a barrel, i.e. warps unattractively on both sides. With hotel towels, this should be avoided at all costs. For that, we work with distortion-free border designs such low woven stripes tone in tone, colorful stripes in elastic polyester or do without them altogether - and allow high quality to appear in simple elegance! When the color fades: Reasons why conventional terry towels fade easily.
Has your favorite towel, in nice color, ever had contact with a cleaning agent that contained chlorine? In this case, you are certainly aware of the damage that can occur: Your beautiful color has turned ugly or is irretrievably gone. This must not happen with terry towels in a higher-class hotel with Wellness area where the pool water can be chlorinated. Inevitably, only specific dyestuffs can be used for the coloring of bath towels to be used or washed in combination with chlorine. They are chlorine-resistant and withstand boil wash temperatures without any problems.
Dye and cloth only come together through dyeing; a process that requires great care and professionalism, also in the laundry: dosing must be done exactly according to the instruction of the detergent manufacturer, with time and temperature specifications according to the respective program.
For chlorine-resistant terry cloth, you are therefore well advised to turn to reliable manufacturers who have the necessary know-how and experience in handling these demanding dyeing processes.
Industrially washable terry products are therefore not just special but are characterized by unique advantages that become more apparent with every wash: Professional terry toweling guarantees good care properties, durability and value retention. Conventional market goods can cause a lot of trouble and avoidable costs, whereas the professional hotel towel is not only problem-free but also gives the hotel guest a special pleasure.
The gap between costs and benefits becomes even wider when it comes to bathrobes. Buying a professional hotel bathrobe is therefore particularly worthwhile and will ensure optimum comfort for the guest!
